Hannah Vassar

Obituary of Hannah Leota Vassar

Hannah was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, on July 31, 1947, to proud parents, Henry Robbins and Mildred Robbins (Bliss). Hannah, our beloved best friend, wife, sister and most important—our Momma, passed away August 18, 2014 in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 65. As a child, Hannah lived in Shelton, Washington. As a young adult and mother of two, she met the love of her life—Steve Vassar. They married on March 17, 1973, in Tacoma. Putting nothing above education, Hannah got diplomas in Legal Secretary, Business Administration, Accounting Clerk and Bookkeeping. She held a variety of jobs in Tacoma. Wanting to get out of the city, Hannah and Steve bought a home in Rainier, Washington, in 1989. This is where she worked at the Rainier Market, ran her in-home day care (where she watched half the town’s kids), and started Ma and Pa’s Country Crafts. After the kids all started school, she went to work with her husband at Rochester bus barn where she was a monitor on bus routes, while continuing her many crafts and bake sales. Hannah was very proud of all the different bazaars and shows she did throughout the year. Her face would always light up when family talked about them and the many different ideas she had for their next project. Hannah was Mom to all, the one who had all the answers and who took care of everybody. She could make anything. Whether cooking or crafting, she could do it. She is survived by her husband, Steve Vassar of Rainier; sons, James Ryan and wife Patti of Portland, Oregon, and Steven Vassar and wife Jen of Steamboat Island, Washington; daughter, Kat Valentine-Cholousky and husband Jim of Olympia; brother, Charley Robbins and wife Pat of Rochester, Washington; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and many to whom she was Nana. Waiting for Momma at the pearly gates were her friends and family who went before her, including her parents; sister, Sara; niece, Michelle; and grandsons, Steven and Alex.
