Obituary of Doramay Trotter

Doramay Trotter passed away peacefully on April 30, 2014, in Olympia, Washington. She was born to Thomas and Eleanor (Morrow) Robinson in Vancouver, B.C., on September 26, 1920, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of British Columbia in 1942. Doramay then moved to the Seattle area, where she worked as a secondary school teacher in the Everett and Shoreline School Districts, and met her husband Bill. They were married in 1949, and lived in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. Doramay resigned her teaching position in 1951 to begin raising her family, and they moved to Normandy Park. Doramay was active in the PTA, garden club, and swim club. She and Bill were part of a couples’ bridge group that met regularly for over 40 years. In 1973, Doramay and Bill moved to Bainbridge Island, where she helped him remodel and build houses, and became involved with people in many other ways. After Bill’s death, she moved to the Panorama retirement community near Olympia, to be closer to her son Don and his family. Doramay made friends easily wherever she went, and she maintained many friendships for decades. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. With her warm smile and gracious manner, she was always fun to be with. Doramay is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Kathy Trotter of Snohomish, Don and Mary Trotter of Olympia, and Steve and Bonnie Trotter of Naches. She loved her five grandchildren, Dave, Mary, Julie, Rachel, and Faith; Dave’s wife, Katie; her niece, Lynne Dunlop; her nephew, Drew Dunlop; and Drew’s wife Linda and daughter Brianna. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; and her sister, Yvonne Dunlop. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doramay’s name to Bainbridge Island Friends of the Library, 1270 Madison Avenue N, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110, or to a charity of your choice.
