Obituary of Vivian Louise Stover

Vivian Louise (Gorzelancyk) Stover, 88, of Adna, Washington passed away January 24, 2014 in Centralia, Washington. Daughter of early Adna pioneers, Andrew and Edith Gorzelancyk, Vivian was born in the family farmhouse on Curtis Hill Road on April 27, 1925. A 1943 Adna High School graduate, Vivian lived most of her life in Adna and on Curtis Hill Road where she enjoyed her valley view, especially when “the mountain was out.” She was known for her colorful oil paintings, a number of which were displayed in the homes of friends and relatives as well as in the Lewis County area. Vivian also had a love of music—playing piano late into the evening or listening to music on the “stereo.” Her musical tastes varied from Marty Robbins to The Lettermen to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. She also was an avid reader, and enjoyed looking out the window at her flowers and the butterflies and birds that hovered around the house. A homemaker for the most part, Vivian could always be found canning in the summers, while her pie baking talents—with her famous from-scratch crusts—yielded sweet desserts that were out-of-this-world. She was also known for her macaroni salad, a family recipe made with sweet pickle relish, which she passed on to her daughter, granddaughters and surrogate daughter, Cathy (Punky Long) Hogue. It seems Vivian was always carting her daughter, Vivianne, Punky and others to all sorts of social events—Rainbow Girls, 4-H meetings, church camp, and more. She could also be found staying up until the wee hours of the morning on more than one occasion, sewing holiday dresses for her daughter so she would have the appropriately-themed attire for parties at school. A member of the West Adna Friends and Neighbors Club, she was also a longtime member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon, Elder and Westerian. Vivian is preceded in death by her husband of more than 30 years, Marion J. Stover; and stepson, Frank G. Huckstep. She is survived by her daughter, Vivianne (Huckstep) Hall Scully of Jupiter, Florida; and granddaughters, Colleen and Megan Scully, both of Miami Beach, Florida.
