Robert Sanders

Obituary of Robert L. Sanders

Robert “Bob” Sanders, 67, passed away peacefully July 29, 2014 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington, with Kathy, Sarah, Amanda and Hayli by his side. Bob was born May 17, 1947, to Ervin and Gladys Sanders in Tacoma, Washington. He graduated from Spanaway’s Bethel High School. He married June Needham in 1969; they later divorced. In February 1980, Bob married Kathy Hopkins in Puyallup, Washington. Kathy and Bob moved to the Olympia area in 1984. Throughout his life, Bob held many jobs, which included being a logger and truck driver, and working in the auto wrecking business. He made many lifelong friends over the years. Bob loved Seahawks football and was so happy with their Super Bowl Championship win this year. He also loved Mariners baseball, NASCAR racing (Go Dale Jr.!), fishing and being at the ocean. Family was very important to Bob and he had great love for his family. Most of the time, he was outnumbered by the women in the family, but he held his own. Occasionally, they even let him win an argument. Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Amanda of Puyallup, Sarah of Olympia, and Susan of Tacoma; son, Robert Jr. of Tacoma; grandchildren, Hayli, Vicky and Dakota; great grandchildren, Z’onna and Malik; and sisters, Kathy (Antone) Kuntz of Puyallup, Donna Hoskins of Roy, and Iola Way of Roy. In addition, he is survived by many extended family members, including brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. The family is so grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received. We miss Bob so much and there is a huge void in our life. Please leave memories of Bob or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
