Obituary of Marie Renee Rohr

Marie Rohr passed away June 14, 2014, in Shelton, Washington, at the age of 87. She was born May 3, 1927, to Joseph and Opal Marie (Godat) Lavery in Olympia, Washington. Marie graduated with Olympia’s William Winlock Miller High School Class of 1946. In the late 1950s, she attended business school at night and received a secretarial diploma. She married Gerald Earl “Jerry” Cummings on June 23, 1946 in Olympia. Jerry passed away November 19, 1955. On June 29, 1959, she married Elman Coy “Bud” Rohr in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Bud passed away August 21, 1998. Marie was a very strong person and a very caring mother and grandmother. She was devoted to her family. She loved country and western music; her favorites were Eddie Arnold, Jim Reeves, and Charley Pride. Marie had a varied career history. As a teenager and young woman, she worked in a cannery in Olympia. She later worked as a secretary for the Washington State Liquor Board, as a waitress at the Governor’s House Motel in Salem, Oregon, and at the Capital Building Cafeteria in Olympia, and as a custodian for the State of Washington in Olympia. She loved crocheting, knitting, reading novels, playing bingo, camping, gardening and cooking. She was an avid porcelain doll collector. At various times, she was a member of Lakewood Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Victory Missionary Baptist Church, Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Lacey, and Olympia Bible Baptist Church. Marie is survived by two of her three sons, Danny Coy Rohr of Yelm, Washington, and David Elman Rohr of Helena, Montana; daughters, Kathleen Jo Ferrante of Tumwater, Washington, Renee Marie Davis of Ravenden, Arkansas, Lorna Pauline Mead of Yelm, Denise Ann Clements of Shelton, Karen Elma Gapinski of Shelton, and Sandy Joy Zappia of Shelton; 27 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brothers, Cleo, Edward, Elbert, Delbert, and William “Bill,” and sisters, Annette, Betty, Joanne, Juanita, Bonnie, and Roberta. She was predeceased by her husbands; son, Gerald Edward “Bud” Cummings; and four siblings. Please leave memories of Marie or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
