Obituary of James Andrew Reed

James Andrew Reed, 65, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016, at his beloved home in East Olympia. Born and raised in southern California by the late Andrew and Elizabeth Reed, he received his B.A. from San Jose State University before moving to Olympia in 1980. In Olympia, he raised two children and various cows, pigs and chickens on his small farm, and spent over 30 years working for the State of Washington in various capacities. During his time with General Administration he worked on the restoration of the original Capitol building and Courthouse and was appointed deputy director of the GA before transitioning to work for the Higher Education Coordinating Board where he was instrumental in the development of the University of Washington branch campuses in Bothell and Tacoma. He retired from the HEC Board in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Donna; sister, Marianne (David) Young; children, Patrick (Elizabeth) Reed and Amy (Chris) Sindik; and grandchildren, Alice, Clark and Lucy. His family will fondly remember his love of golf, guitar, cooking and the beach, and his commitment to higher education. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
