Clifford Monahan

Obituary of Clifford F. Monahan

Clifford F. Monahan, Jr., 56, died of a heart attack on May 26, 2014 in Olympia, Washington. He was born January 30, 1958 to Clifford F. Monahan Sr. and Pearl (Barnes) Swansbrough in Ithaca, New York. He was called “Beaver” in New York, “Troll” in Washington, “Cliffy” by some, and just Cliff by others. Cliff had worked as a caregiver for disabled adults since moving to Washington in 2000. Previously, while living in Ithaca and Groton, New York, he had many different jobs, including working as a dishwasher, cab driver, farm worker, carnival roadie, and game warden assistant. Cliff was big-hearted. He would help anyone in need or figure out how to get the help they needed. He enjoyed his time helping coach Special Olympics athletes. Cliff also was a big teddy bear who flirted with all the women. He loved music, computers, and motorcycles. He also enjoyed cooking; he would watch cooking shows on TV and then figure how to put his own spin on the recipes. He is survived by his girlfriend, Anette Moon of Olympia; daughter, Jessica Brown of Marathon, New York; brothers, Jeff Monahan, Bill Monahan and Robert Monahan, all of New York; and sisters, Claire Combs of Ithaca, New York, Patricia Baker of New York, Christiane Ream of Marathon, New York, Kayla Monahan of Interlaken, New York, and Penny Elridge of Trumansburg, New York. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford Monahan Sr. and Pearl Swansbrough; brother, Mike Monahan; sister, Lori Monahan; and infant son, Clifford, who died at birth.
