Clinton Merrill

Obituary of Clinton Edgar Merrill

Clinton E. Merrill passed from this earth and went home to his Heavenly Father after a brief illness and with laughter on his lips. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bernice Merrill; his daughters, Dorothy Frandsen, Judy Devoe, Lori Boyd and Lonita Jorgensen. Clint also leaves behind three sisters, Lois Emerson, Eunice Lindsay and Shirley Cottrell; and his brother, Jesse Merrill. He is survived by many grand and great grandchildren, missing the birth of his first great-great grandson by only eight weeks. Sadly, he suffered the heart break of the loss of two of his daughters, Valjean Merrill and Jan Boykin, a heartbreak that he never quite got over. He looked forward to a happy reunion with them. Clint wasn’t a perfect man, but he was the perfect man for us! He stayed active his whole 90+ years until the morning he suffered a massive stroke. He was a man before his time, with his natural approach to gardening and health remedies. We all have some not-so-fond memories of being dosed by one of his concoctions. We remember being afraid to cough or we would get dosed with “stinging nettle cough syrup.” With his great love of nature, he turned his 2 ½ acres into a little farm, raising rabbits, goats, chickens and dogs. He was always experimenting with growing something unusual or developing a unique apple through grafting, which he would then press into cider with a hand built cider mill. Growing up on a dairy farm in Maine, he learned to love all animals and the great outdoors. He was a fisherman and hunter in his younger years but retired from these activities as his heart became too tender to be able to kill anything. Clint’s great loves in his life were his beloved wife, Bernice, his six daughters, and all the grandchildren. Another love in his life was his great love for the Savior. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His strong testimony and love of the gospel was a great example to his family and a guiding light in his life. Clint left this life laughing!! How many people can say that? This will be a great mystery to all of us until we meet again. We love you little Poppa!
