Obituary of Alton James McCarty

Alton passed away of cancer March 11, 2014 in Lacey, Washington, at the age of 70. He was born April 4, 1943 to William H. McCarty and Mary O. Diehl. He married Donna Quinn Baxter at Fort Lewis, Washington, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. In addition to Washington, he was also stationed at bases in Oklahoma and Germany. Upon military retirement, he worked for the Washington State Department of Corrections, from which he also retired. He loved camping, fishing, and making things out of old wood, such as benches and bird houses. Alton is survived by his mother, Mary McCarty; wife, Donna McCarty; daughter, Leann Smith, her husband Sheldon Smith, their children, Bradford, Stefan, Adam and Amber, and Bradford’s daughter, Sophia; sister, Laverne Shakles Lawson, her husband Don Lawsen, and their sons, Tim Shakles and Jerry Shakles; sister-in-law, Patti Campbell, and her husband Charles Campbell; niece, Tracy Aslin, her husband Tony, and their children, Billy and Jordan; niece, Teresa Santee, and her children, Taylor and Nathan; and extended family in Texas. He was predeceased by his father, William McCarty; brother, Randy McCarty; and nephews, Bill Shakles and Jim Shakles.
