Obituary of Lewis W. Larson

Lewis W. Larson 7-12-1919 – 5-31-2013 Lew was born in Sweden on July 12, 1919 and, at the age of nine, moved to the United States. After graduating high school, Lew continued his education in order to become a Tool & Die Engineer. After earning his degree, Lew moved to the East Coast and began his profession in Washington, D.C at the Naval Gun Factory. In 1944, Lew became a United States citizen and later joined the U.S. Navy to fight during World War II. Lew served aboard the USS Helias and later aboard the USS Vestal as a Machinist Mate (MM2C). Lew’s service earned him many awards, including World War II Victory Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. His service to the Navy ended in the fall of 1946. After the war, Lew transferred over to Civil Service and became an employee for the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. It was while working at Bremerton that Lew met Gladys and, in 1959, took her hand in marriage. Lew and Gladys retired in 1974 to Panorama City in Olympia. While at Panorama, the two were devoted to the same likes and love of life. Lew and Gladys were married for over 38 years until her passing in 1997. Lew continued as an active member of the AA program for over 59 years. Lew’s dedication and commitment as a group representative spanned from Bremerton to McNeil Island Penitentiary and continued in Olympia for over 30 years. He felt truly blessed by sharing his life with AA brothers and friendships. Lew touched many hearts and was truly devoted to God. He spent thousands of hours in prayer for all who wanted and needed them. The Lord’s word is what he lived for… in life and in his passing. Lew is preceded in death by his father, Wilhelm; mother, Frida; and brothers, Ernest and Asker. Please leave memories of Lew or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
