Obituary of Randall Jay Greggs

Randall Jay Greggs, 65, passed away on May 11, 2015 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous 17-month battle with brain cancer. Randall had a deep and abiding faith in God. He wholeheartedly loved his family, friends and colleagues. During his grueling cancer journey, he had the blessing of welcoming his first grandchild, Jaden Randall Green, into the family. He was able to find joy and happiness in the 10 months that he watched Jaden grow and develop! In spite of the rapid decline of his health, Randall was also able to walk his daughter, Carin, down the aisle to marry her best friend. His love of the outdoors spurred him to earn a Master’s Degree in Silviculture and a Forestry career that spanned 35 years. He embraced change and challenges and was fully engaged in everything that he undertook. He was a graduate of the Ag/Forestry Leadership Program and continued to serve the organization. He also served on many different Forestry-related boards, nurseries, Co-ops and committees, including the Society of the American Forester. Randall and Linda have attended Evergreen Christian Community Church for the past 14 years. They participated in various classes and made close friends. He saw a need and spearheaded a revitalizing of Men’s Ministry. He and his wife shared their home to a church community group for many years. When told the cancer had spread into his spinal fluid, Randall told us he was confident in his salvation, just concerned for his family. He asked that everyone continue to pray God’s peace and comfort for his family. Right up to the last days, Linda and Randall read devotionals by Sarah Young, Jesus Calling, Jesus Today and Jesus Lives. They derived such comfort through those devotionals and often the scriptures were perfect for that exact day. Randall loved sailing and would be on the water as often as time permitted. He participated in the Windseekers Sailing Group and looked forward to each and every event. He particularly enjoyed the trips to the San Juan Islands, the Gulf Islands and even going through the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks to sail in Lake Washington. He relished every opportunity to harvest clams, oysters, crab and shrimp. He also enjoyed his motorcycle so there were some tough decisions to be made between sailing and biking when sharing the great weather. Randall was also a self-taught handyman. He was passionate in the many renovations that he planned and tackled with great satisfaction and integrity. Randall is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Linda Pleticha Greggs; daughter, Jessica R Green of Spokane WA, and husband Jordan C. Green, and grandson Jaden Randall Green; daughter, Carin Greggs McNeil of Seattle and husband Brian A McNeil; sister, Cassandra (Greggs) Cooley of Seabeck and husband Chuck Cooley; his mother-in-law, Gini Pleticha of Sun Lakes AZ; sister-in-law, Carrie Eckard and husband, Tom Eckard of Overland Park, KS; brother-in-law, Steve Pleticha and wife, Dawn of Maricopa, AZ; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many cousins. Randall requested donations, in lieu of flowers, go to help find the cure for Type 1 Diabetes. His daughter, Carin, has T1D and is currently in a campaign to raise money through Nordstrom Beat the Bridge on May 17, 2015. Donations are accepted through Friday, May 29, 2015.
