Obituary of Doris Jean Coerce

Doris J. Goercke was born to Eugene and Olive Sanders in Menomonie, Wisconsin on March 23, 1923 and passed away on August 19, 2013 in Olympia, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley P. Goercke; great granddaughter, Andrea Isabelle Rebekah Goercke; and three older sisters. Doris is survived by her older sister, Phyllis MacGregor of Park Falls, Wisconsin; son, Daniel R. Goercke (Bev) of La Pine, Oregon; daughter, Delphine K. Goercke of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren, Tami Mildenberger (Steve) of Olympia, Jennifer Iyal (Dave) of Olympia, Shari Jones (Mike) of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Troy Goercke (Elizabeth) of El Paso, Texas, and Megan Hinckley of Olympia; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Doris is also survived by her childhood girlfriend, Dorleen Duval of Olympia. Dorleen had a brother named Stanley; Doris fell in love with him and they married on July 25, 1941. During the early ‘50s, Doris was transformed into a devoted and faithful minister’s wife as her husband pastored churches in Minnesota and South Dakota. In early 1959, the family moved to Lacey where Stanley was pastor at Lacey Chapel for several years, followed by pastorates in Cathlamet, Washington, Sweet Home, Oregon, and numerous interim pastorates in the Olympia area until God called the preacher home. That was eight years ago. What most of us may not have realized is that Mom was still the devoted preacher’s wife who ministered to her children and grandchildren by continually lifting them in prayer to her heavenly Father.
