Obituary of Betty V. Chapin

Betty, 91, passed away February 27, 2014 in Olympia, Washington. She was born September 2, 1922 to Matthew Vernon and Bessie (Stubblefield) Harmon in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She graduated from Seattle’s Roosevelt High School and attended the University of Washington. Betty married George F. Chapin on May 3, 1942 in Seattle; he passed away on January 9, 1994. A 70-year resident of Seattle (1937-2007), Betty also lived in Olympia (2007- 2014), Los Angeles, California, and Creston, Iowa. Over the years, she worked as a bookkeeper at several businesses in the Seattle area. She and George loved traveling, hiking, walking, reading and spending time at Cannon Beach Conference Center. She loved her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent many hours and days taking them on trips along with George. She was very active in the church with George. They were members of Seattle’s Emmanuel Bible Church. For many years, they were the sponsors of the high school and college groups, supporting, counseling and guiding them through their years at the church. Betty is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Bob) Reese and Marie (Jim) Giger; grandchildren, Edd (Laura) Giger, Ann (Adam) Botana, and Jen (Reed) Falkenberg; and six great grandchildren who miss her very much.
