Patricia Carpenter

Obituary of Patricia Jeanne Carpenter

Patty was surrounded by her loving family as she was received by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. She was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on November 12, 1936, to Thelma and Kenneth Ford Sr. She was raised in Aberdeen most of her life. Patty is survived by her mother, Thelma Logan; seven children, Suzanne (Paul) Robischon, Sharilynn (Rudy) Hasenwinkle, Shannie (Al) Jenkins, Scott (Karen) Dixon, Shellyne Grisham, Steve (Jamie) Carpenter and Shawn Carpenter; stepson, John Apple; 18 grandchildren and 13.5 great grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth E. Ford Jr. and Steven Hanna; and a wonderful extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Carpenter; infant daughter, Deborah Dianne Dixon; stepson, Rick Carpenter; and father, Kenneth E. Ford Sr. Patty was originally in the Class of 1954 but graduated in1955 from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen. She was a high school Song Queen and was also crowned Ms. Westport. She married her high school sweetheart in April 1955, Ronald E. Dixon (deceased). She then married Sidney Carpenter in March 1971. Together they raised nine children. She moved to Olympia in 1976 and got her real estate license and then became a broker. She was on the Washington State Board of Realtors. She gave to those in need even when she was struggling financially. As a realtor, she often would forego her commission to help young couples with their down payments. She was an Elkette President, involved with EHS Boosters, Capital Lakefair, ABX Leader, and Brownie Leader. She also was great at direct sales with Jafra, Home Interiors, Old World, Tupperware, and Avon. Above all, she was a volunteer for anyone needing help. She dressed with class, and was an amazing cook. She could make incredible meals out of little and always made sure she served plenty. Her children are still trying to perfect her pancakes and her legacy of the Danish Puff. But most of all, she added a lot of love, and everyone was always welcome at her table. Patty was a very beautiful woman, inside and out. She was a true family matriarch and cherished the large family get-togethers. She loved like she had never been hurt, made strangers feel like family, and preserved through many trials. She survived breast cancer and touched many people through her love of Christ during treatment. She raised her family to be strong, compassionate and devoted to their loved ones. She loved to laugh and loved to dance, and an elegant dancer she was. No matter where she was, you could be sure she was dancing and would end up getting people to dance with her. She may have had her final dance on earth, but now is dancing before the Lord. Memorial donations may be made to Providence South Sound Hospice and Alzheimer’s Research.
