Obituary of Maureen Hatfield
On June 5, 2023, Maureen Hatfield, 68, of Tumwater, Wash., passed away in her sleep at Olympia’s St. Peter Hospital with her son, Cody Potter, at her side.
Maureen was one of eight children, born on October 18, 1954, to Merla and Ross Wilson in Ione, Wash. She was a very artistic and creative soul, finding inspiration in endless media from paper and paint to baked glazed dough, glass, gems and precious metals. Her heart was loving and open, often looking past people’s flaws and looking for the best in them. She deeply loved spending time with family and relished her cherished time with them and friends during the holidays at her home, where she happily cooked delicious meals for all to enjoy. She was generous, often beyond her means. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, owning The Gift Gallery, where she was allowed to share some of her artistic creativity and later at the Bent Rudder tavern along with her first husband, Dave Hatfield. Later in life, she reinvented herself by obtaining a college degree and worked her way into a successful technology career path, which she only just retired from this last January. Maureen was a long-time member of the LDS faith and continuously strived to be Christ-like to the best of her ability.
Maureen is survived by her sister, Louise Richardson; four brothers, Thomas Wilson (Cindy), James Wilson (Geriann), Karl Wilson and Ben Wilson (Donna); first husband, David Hatfield, father of Jason Hatfield (Jennifer), Douglas Hatfield (Cristal) and Leslie Hatfield (John); second husband, Charles Potter, father of Charles Cody Potter and Maxwell Potter. She also leaves her four cherished grandchildren, Hayden Hatfield, Paeton Hatfield, Madigan Hatfield and Ava Hatfield. Maureen was preceded in death by her father, Ross Wilson; mother, Merla Wilson; brother, Stuart Wilson; and sister, Bonnie Wilson.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday, October 14, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.
