Leona Brown

Obituary of Leona D. Brown

With heavy hearts and great sadness, we said goodbye to our beloved mother and sister, Leona D. Brown, on July 25, 2023. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family after battling cancer for many years. She was born on August 11, 1948, at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Her parents, Thomas and Annie Franck, were originally from North Dakota.

Leona attended Lacey Elementary, Chinook Middle School and graduated from North Thurston High School in 1966, where she was a member of the YELL and dance team. After graduation, she worked doing keypunch for the State before she landed at the Post Office from which she retired after 25+ years of service. She was active in the Union, leading the way for female letter carriers.

Leona loved to travel and go camping, which made many wonderful memories for her kids and grandkids. She had a big love for her little dogs and enjoyed spoiling them. She enjoyed garage sales, playing cards, collecting rocks, and a good hotdog over a campfire, but most of all, spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Jones (Aaron) of Olympia, Washington; her son, Anthony Brown of University Place, Washington; her five grandchildren; and her sister, Della Gilliland (Richard) of Escondido, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Danny and Gene Franck; and her sisters, Betty Jones and Diane Moore.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Indian Summer Clubhouse, 5900 Troon Lane SE, Olympia, WA 98501.
