Obituary of Randy Dean

Jay Randall "Randy" Dean was born in Helena, Montana, to Charles and Eloise Dean on November 10, 1950.   Randy passed away August 4, 2023, in Olympia, Washington, after diabetes complications.

He spent his grade school years in Spokane, Washington.  Therein lie the roots of a brilliant pianist and chess player…little did we know then.  Randy graduated from Olympia High School in 1967.  There he made what were to become lifelong friendships that he cherished.

Later Randy received a dual degree in Theology and Mathematics from Stanford University.  He worked as a stockbroker for many years for Dean Securities and Western International Securities.

His real love was his music, chess, history, arts, and especially conversation! He could hold court on any subject.  He was a man with great integrity. How lucky we all are to have known a wonderful son, brother, and friend.

Randy is survived by his siblings, Chuck, Susan, Loren, and Geoffrey.  He will be missed by more family and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 25, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.  A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 114 20th Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98501.
