Obituary of Antonia Newman Maritima

Antonia Newman “Toni” Maritima passed away of cancer on July 19, 2023, in Olympia, Washington. She was born September 11, 1963, to Orland E. and Delphine Herrick Newman in Aberdeen, Washington. Over the years, she also resided in Seattle and Kennewick, Washington; Dubuque, Iowa; Pendleton, Oregon; and Christianson, Norway.

 

Toni graduated in 1981 from Aberdeen High School, where she was a proud member of the marching band under Hampton Wines.  She earned her  Master of Social Work degree, Master of Arts in Theology, Teaching Certificate and her Bachelor of Arts in English/Norwegian.

 

Professionally, Toni was a licensed social worker with Screen, Inc. She also belonged to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

 

Toni was smart and tenacious.  She had a myriad of talents, hobbies, and interests, including music, writing, reading, playing word games, baking, and crafts.  She owned/operated The Webbed Foot, where she sold her handmade jewelry. She also loved the ocean beaches.

 

Toni is survived by her brother, Jerome R. Newman of Olympia; sisters, Lynne Newman Jepsen of San Diego, Ellen Newman Budde of Montesano, Washington, Donna Newman Irish of Olympia; honorary sister, Monika Weber Yover of Olympia; nieces, Karma Hugo of Tumwater, Washington, Sunny Irish Slavin of Olympia, and Jessica Jepsen of San Diego; nephews, James Jepsen Jr. of San Diego, Sam Irish of Olympia, Luke Newman (Kay) of Phoenix, Arizona, Aaron Slavin of Olympia, and Rob Hugo of Tumwater; three grand-nephews; and some wonderful, close friends.  She was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Richard Irish and James M. Jepsen Sr.

 

Toni will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed by all.  Our excellent parties will never be the same!
