Obituary of Linda Christine Johnston

Linda Christine "Chris" (Peterson) Johnston passed away on May 2, 2023, at home in Olympia, Washington.

Chris is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Johnston; daughter, Leah Martz, and her husband, Rob; son, Lance Johnston; brother, Larry “Bubba” Peterson; niece, nephews, and countless friends. Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Irving Peterson and Francie (Raymond) Peterson.

Chris was a graduate of Olympia High School class of 1965. As a young girl, she fell in love with golf and went on to play golf at the University of Arizona, where she quickly became a part of the Women’s traveling team. While at U of A, she joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority and made lifelong friends.

Chris married Bill Johnston in Olympia on December 21, 1968. They went on to have two children, Leah and Lance.

Chris was an amazing friend and cared deeply for others and often was your biggest cheerleader in life. Her passion for golf was evident when she won the Olympia County and Golf Club Women's Championship while pregnant with her first child. Additionally, she served twice as a Board member for OC&GC and was a lifelong member. She was dedicated to raising money for Children's Hospital through her Orthopedic Club and many other clubs and activities.

Chris spent many years working at the family business, Peterson's Shoprite, in West Olympia and Tanglewild Shoprite. Chris and Bill became owners of Tanglewild Shoprite until they closed the business in 1989. Chris went to work for the State of Washington, where she retired in 2008 from the Code Revisors Office.

Chris will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Chris will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, 2:30 p.m. at Olympia County and Golf Club.
