Obituary of Cynthia Jean Doughty
Cynthia Jean “Cindy” Doughty, age 64, of Olympia, Washington, passed away on June 12, 2023, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She was born on November 15, 1958, to William and Sheral Kramer in Olympia and made Olympia her lifelong home.
Cindy’s passions were many and, as a young girl, she pursued her passion for horses, as she participated in 4-H with her horse, Beau. She attended North Thurston High School and displayed her athletic abilities on the track team as a runner.
After high school, Cindy attended travel agent school, which fueled her passion for travel. Some of her favorite travel adventures included her trip to Kenya, Africa; London; Greece; and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! Cabo was Cindy’s “Happy Place,” where she spent many years soaking up the sun with family and friends. She loved her toes in the sand and a glass of wine in her hand!
On June 26, 1982, Cindy married the love of her life and her life partner, Art Doughty. They welcomed two boys, Tyeson and Dustin.
Cindy was a dedicated wife, mother, nana, sister, daughter, aunt, friend, and co-worker.
Cindy was a legend at the Liquor Control Board, where she worked for 42 years, which was her entire career! She went through many changes with the department over the years. She was more than just a dedicated employee; she was a great friend to many of her co-workers and was the most welcoming to all the new staff members who joined their department. She finished her career as an essential part of the small board team. Her goal after retirement was to travel and enjoy her free time.
Cindy’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family. She loved her role as “Nana” and her grandchildren were a highlight of her life. She always made an extra effort to make each one of them feel special. She was the most gracious host, as she gathered her family together at their table for family dinner. She hosted many family holiday gatherings and, with her special touches and delicious cooking, she always made the seasons feel so special.
She loved to be active and really enjoyed golfing with her family. She loved flowers and it showed in the showcase landscaping she and Art created at their home. You would also never go inside her home without finding multiple fresh flower bouquets on display. She had an artistic gift and it showed in the beautiful home she made with Art. It was full of sparkle and shimmer.
Cindy lived her life full of beauty and grace and did not let ALS take that away from her. She maintained her dignity until it was her time to leave her earthly body and become new in Heaven.
Cindy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Art Doughty; her sons, Tyeson (Amanda) and Dustin (Jamie); her grandchildren, Tayvin, Quintyn, Kela, Knox and Maddy; her parents, Keith and Sheral Scott; her siblings, Carla (Tom), Brad (Jill), Andy (Bonnie), Angie, Doug (Brit), Patty (Daren), Ellen, Julie (David); and multiple nieces and nephews who adored her. She was preceded in death by her father, William Kramer.
Cindy’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Avenue SE, Lacey, WA 98503. Dress: Resort Casual
