Obituary of Scott Dominic Erickson

Scott Dominic Erickson, beloved father, husband, son, brother and friend, passed away on May 24, 2023, at the age of 52. He was quiet and often deep in thought, but his quick wit would send his family into hysterics daily. He was the perfect combination of genius and comedian. Scott had a huge heart that gave out too soon. He passed in his sleep of a heart attack at home. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Scott was born in Naples, Italy, while his father served with the U.S. Navy. His family lived in Italy during his toddler years before moving to Aberdeen, Washington, where he attended elementary and middle school. His family moved to Olympia in 1985, where he attended Olympia High School. During high school, Scott played football, rode dirt bikes, and started working at his family business, Harbor Wholesale Grocery. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1989.

Scott attended Washington State University, where he earned a BA in Business Administration in 1994. He also met the love his life at WSU, Holly Gilson. The two married in 1996 and settled in Olympia. They have two sons, Soren and Reece. Scott was an amazing father. He enjoyed teaching the boys how to play football and baseball, water ski, and ride dirt bikes. He was always an example to his sons of how to live with integrity.

His kindness was evident to everyone he worked with over the years. Scott wore many hats over 37 years as a fourth-generation employee in his family’s business. His current position was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Harbor Foods. Harbor Foods is the parent company of Harbor Wholesale Grocery and Harbor Foodservice. He was a beloved leader to his employees. Scott was very proud of his work to develop “Harbor Cares,” a charitable arm of the business that provides funding for non-profit organizations.

Scott volunteered much of his time as a coach. He spent over a decade coaching football, baseball, and basketball. He loved coaching and positively impacted hundreds of young athletes. He also volunteered many years as the president of The Thurston County Youth Football League. Scott was a loyal Seahawks fan and never missed attending or watching a game.

During his free time, Scott enjoyed hiking with Holly and working on and riding his dirt bikes with his sons. He also loved traveling and boating with his family. Lake Chelan and Hawaii were his favorite destinations.

Recently, Scott cultivated a deep relationship with the Lord. Together, Holly and Scott were baptized in the Pacific Ocean on their recent trip to Maui. Scott will be missed immensely here on earth, but his loved ones find peace knowing he was welcomed into the arms of the Lord.

Scott is survived by his wife, Holly Erickson; his two sons, Soren Erickson and Reece Erickson; along with his parents, Steven and Sally Erickson; and his niece, Gracie Erickson. Scott is preceded in death by his brother, Geoffrey Erickson; and his grandparents, Bob and Marilyn Erickson, Dena and John Mowell, and June and Frank Meins.

A service celebrating his life will be held on June 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Christian Community Church, 1000 Black Lake Blvd. SW, Olympia, WA 98502.
