Obituary of Clifford Theodore Hurd
Clifford Theodore Hurd, known as Ted by friends and family, passed away of natural causes on May 21, 2023, in Tumwater, Washington, his home of 30 years. He was born July 20, 1955, to Clifford Maberry Hurd and Margaret Raymond Harrington in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Over the years he also resided in Dover, Delaware (1958-1980), Richmond, Virginia (1980-1989), and Lansing, Michigan (1989-1992).
Ted graduated from Dover High School in 1973 and earned a BA in Business from the University of Delaware in 1977. He married Kathleen Margaret Harris on May 28, 1983, in Richmond. Professionally, he worked at the DuPont Plant with Brown and Root Corp. (1980-1989) and Timberland Regional Library (1997 to present). More recently, Ted had switched courier book transportation duties to an operations technician. He was known by many throughout the library system.
Ted was passionate about animals and history. He was compassionate about the well-being of others, and often said how his children gave his life purpose. He loved DIY projects, the Mariners and Seahawks, and fishing. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He will be remembered as a generous and kind man.
He is survived by his son, Theodore C. Hurd of Washington; daughters, Kathleen M. Hurd of Tokyo, Molly E. Hurd of Washington, and Samantha L. Hurd of Washington; two grandchildren; brother, Thomas Hurd, sister-in-law, Barbara Hurd, nephews, Ben and Bo Hurd, and niece, Jessica Hurd. He was predeceased by his daughter, Virginia Anne Hurd; his parents; and many pets.
A service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1925 Boulevard Road SE, Olympia, WA 98501.
Memorial donations may be made to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
