Obituary of Howard Arthur Weaver

Howard Arthur Weaver, adventurer and family man, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the age of 69, with loved ones by his side.

Born on February 25, 1954, in Corvallis, Oregon, he grew up in Olympia, Washington. Howard attended high school at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, Washington, and then later graduated from Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado, with a degree in Mathematics.  He spent his 30-year career teaching at Chinook Middle School in Lacey, Washington, and Black Hills High School in Tumwater, Washington.

Having been introduced to Mt Rainier as a teenager, Howard spent a good portion of his life traveling to and mountaineering on Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America. Along with his love of climbing mountains, Howard also enjoyed meeting the people of each region. His other interests included bicycling, ice climbing, rock climbing, and photography.

As much as Howard was an independent spirit, he very much loved being a dad, husband, uncle, and brother. His family, and friends old and new, meant everything to him. He will be remembered for his humility, gentle nature, strength, and love of animals and the out-of-doors.

He is survived by wife, Anne Weaver; son, Scott Weaver; daughter, Alison Weaver; sisters, Susie Simpson Reddell and Cynthia Simpson; brothers-in-law, Edd (Liz) Neevel, Larry Neevel, Clair (Donna) Neevel; nephew, Ray Neevel; and niece, Madelyn Neevel.

He is preceded in death by his dad, Ned Weaver; mom, Elfriede Simpson; brother, Billy Simpson; and first wife, Jocelyn Lindberg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the The Humane Society or The Mountaineers. We know Howard would like it if you thought of him next time you were out enjoying nature.

Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
