Obituary of Michael Edward Bryant

On May 7, 2023, the world lost one of the greatest souls ever as Michael Edward Bryant, 59, passed from this life into a better kingdom.  Mike is survived by his dad, Lyle Bryant; his mother, Sherelen Wildhaber (Tony); his sister, Brenda Bryant Anderson (friend and brother-in-law, Dana); his nieces, Morgan Anderson (Kyle Darling), Chloe Anderson; and his grandmother, Jewel Anderson.

Mike’s love of learning materialized in many varied academic degrees.  As his family would often joke, “Mike has more degrees than Fahrenheit.”  He was a musician, historian, writer, mathematician, teacher, attorney, and project manager, with degrees spanning many universities, Pacific Lutheran, Central, Western, and University of Washington, to name a few.   He truly exemplified a 21st Century Renaissance man with his life-long love of learning.   His balanced perspective and deep thinking made him a valuable member of any community he belonged to. Mike had a tremendous impact in every place he worked, and his colleagues and friends alike respected and admired him.

Mike’s most beloved traits surrounded his kindness, compassion, quick wit, and ability to deeply connect with people from all walks of life.   Maybe this was because of the many news publications, balancing all perspectives, he read daily; maybe it was because of his curiosity in people and life; but at the core of this connection was the fact that he had a pure, loving heart.

Mike valued family.  Growing up, he enjoyed many treks to Sun Lakes State Park, camping and water skiing with his master-ski boat driver father, Lyle, and phenomenal camper chef mother, Sherelen.  Mike also relished extended family dinners, visiting with everyone while eating great food, including his Grandma Jude’s famous chicken and dumplings.  Mike absolutely adored his sister, Brenda, and nieces, Morgan and Chloe. He was a devoted uncle who always made time and cherished every moment spent with them. He took great pride in being a part of their lives.

A memorial service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at South Sound Manor Event Center, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.  Please come prepared to share the joy Mike brought to your life and others.
