Obituary of Martin Petkovits

Martin Petkovits passed away peacefully in his sleep in his own home April 15, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharman; and five children, Denver, Lance, Brian, Ranko, and Alyson.

Martin was born August 28, 1952, in Seattle, Washington, to Richard Carroll Petkovits and Agnes Ida McGinnis. He graduated from St. Martin’s High School, resided in Tumwater, Washington, and married Sharman October 7, 1978, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Martin's favorite hobby as a youth was a group called Sea Scout Ship Propellers, aka PROP, a maritime organization. His brothers, parents, and friends would sail together on the ships. He liked to recall one particular memory where they went up thru Princess Louisa Inlet, dropped anchor, and swam to Chatterbox Waterfall. His friends have fond memories of his contagious laugh and smile.

Martin spent his working career as an auto mechanic, followed by auto mechanic instructor. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with family. He loved his grandchildren, Amelia and Elliot. He enjoyed his “fur babies" (pets).

Martin was very smart and loved to share his knowledge.  His hobbies included anything with a motor, cars, planes, trains, ATVs, boats, and ships. He loved travel, drives to the beach and woods, and music. He watched movies and read books, particularly about history. He enjoyed nature and the weather. He collected all kinds of things to his liking.

He was loved dearly. His laugh, his voice, and his smile will be truly missed.

Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
