Obituary of John Lawrence Dickman

John Lawrence Dickman passed away in his sleep of natural causes on March 26, 2023, in Rochester, Washington, his home of 16 years.  He was born September 6, 1959, to John and Ruth (Surpa) Dickman at Fairchild AFB, in Spokane, Washington.  Over the years, he also resided in Motley, Minnesota; Fairbanks, Alaska; and Tumwater, Washington.

 

John graduated from high school in Fairbanks, and married Taryn Lund.  He later married Shelley Swift on October 1, 2018.  Professionally, he worked in logging and was a mechanic and bartender at Little Rock Tavern.  He worked at Pace Edwards for 23 years.

 

John was a good person, enjoyed people, and developed good friendships.  He had a quick wit, and enjoyed travelling, working in his yard, attending concerts, and especially sports.  He loved, loved, loved the Mariners and Seahawks, and attended many games.

 

He is survived by his wife, Shelley Swift; son, Devin of Tumwater; stepsons, Brian, John and Sky of Fairbanks; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Richie Dickman; stepbrothers, Mark Dickman and Thomas Dickman of Alaska; stepsisters, Debra Halcomb, Lorrie Dickman, Valerie Arrington and Kimberly Rasmusson of Alaska; and numerous other family members in Alaska whom he cared for dearly.  John was deceased by his father, John Dickman; mother, Ruth Dickman; stepfather, Larry Dickman; brother, Larry “Sonny” Dickman; and sisters, Sharon Dickman and Julie Dickman.

 

There will be a potluck memorial service on Sunday, May 21, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 1400 Grand Avenue, Centralia, WA 98531.
