Obituary of Merrill Lee Thompson

Merrill Lee Thompson, age 90, passed away of natural causes on April 8, 2023, in Olympia, Washington, his home of 50 years.  He was born May 11, 1932, to Ole and Elaine Faye Thompson in Elma, Washington.

 

Merrill graduated from Olympia High School.  He married Beverly Jean Channel on January 17, 1948, in Olympia.  Professionally, he was a Realtor with Boone & Boone Realty.

 

Merrill was an avid reader, golfer, and member of the Olympia Elks.  He also was a strong Christian, saved at the age of 20, and was a member of the Christian Fellowship Center.  His family considered him “the best dad in the whole wide world.”  He was their patriarch, the Thompson family Abraham, following the Bible admonition to “Be fruitful and multiply.”

 

He is survived by his sons, Paul Thompson and John Thompson; daughters, Gloria Erskine, Debra Harford, Denise Crawford, and Sharon McClish; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Beverly Thompson (11-06-2018); sons, Tom Thompson and David Thompson; sister, Sharon Thompson; and brothers, Don Thompson and Ted Thompson.

 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Christian Community (north auditorium), 1000 Black Lake Blvd. SW, Olympia, WA 98502.
