Obituary of Mark Nelson

Mark Nelson passed away April 10, 2023, in Rancho Mirage, California, after a heart attack.  He was born May 14, 1959, to George and Francis Nelson in Oklahoma.  He resided in the Indian Summer neighborhood of Olympia, Washington, for 21 years (2000-2021), and then in a new retirement home on Offut Lake in Tenino, Washington, the last year and a half.

 

Mark graduated from Timberline High School in Lacey and Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Washington.  He married Linda Ashburn on March 31, 1984, in Olympia.  Professionally, he was a carpenter, and then worked for Donald B. Murphy (DBM); Marine Technical Services in Long Beach, California, contracting in the marine industry all over the world; Sause Brothers in Oregon; and Ness Campbell Crane in Bothell, Washington.

 

Mark loved to play golf, cook, and have friends over for dinner.  He also loved sports, especially the Seahawks, Sonics, and Mariners (season ticket holder).  Above all, he loved to spend time with his family, his dog, Tucker, and his golf friends.  He was the organizer for the Indian Summer Couples Club, and participated in the Men’s Club Golf.

 

Mark is survived by his wife, Linda R. Nelson; brother, Ken Nelson of Lacey, Washington, and nieces, Stephanie Nelson of Vancouver, Washington, Nicole Nelson of Spokane, Washington, and Kaitlyn Berish of Spokane; and brother, Jim Nelson of Redmond, Washington, and niece, Jamie Nelson of Arizona; niece, Sarah Carney, and great-nephew, Gunnar Nelson Carney, of Olympia.  He was predeceased by his parents, George and Frances Nelson; and grandparents, Ray, Pokey, and Thelma Stanton.

 

A Graveside Service for immediate family will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery, 18011 Northcraft Road SE, Tenino, WA 98589.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club, 5900 Troon Lane SE, Olympia, WA 98501. All are invited to attend.
