Janet Hanson

Obituary of Janet Ruth Hanson

On March 13, 1935, Janet Ruth (Sackrider) Hanson was born to Orville and Rosella Sackrider in Montesano, Wash.  Anyone who met our mom knows what a beautiful, talented, and outgoing woman she was.  Her smile could light up a room and she never gave up even in the most difficult times. Mom was also very sentimental; she never threw any precious memory away!

She loved to help people and was a devoted Mom to Rick, Jill and Julie.   She loved to garden, decorate for all the holidays, and kept a beautiful home.  She was a cashier at Yard Birds, Sun Birds, Centralia Pharmacy, and Gibson House.  She was a member of the Chehalis Valley Sweet Adeline’s for a time and sang next to her daughters, Jill and Julie.  She loved watching her son, Richard Hanson, play piano and organ and went on many trips with her youngest daughter, Julie, as she sang in many Regional and International contests with her quartets.

Mom really enjoyed going for long rides in the country with Jill, watching the ducks at Borst Park and stopping for treats at McDonalds. Her absolute favorite place to go was the beach with Dad.  Anytime she could tear him away from work, she would have him drive her there.  They lived on J Street in Centralia for 55 years and moved to Cooks Hill Landing in Centralia, where she was the Sunshine Chairman, delivering love and holiday cheer to the homeowners there.  Her final home was at Brookdale West in Olympia with many friends to keep her company.  There she continued to decorate the large facility and spread her love and compassion with the residents and staff.

Anyone who knew our Mom knows she loved our Dad Maurice Hanson with all of her heart. They met at the Fox Theatre where they both worked. Mom was an usher and Dad changed the billboards out front. It was love at first sight! They were married three weeks after graduating from Centralia High School on July 23, 1954, and they never looked back, staying married 57 years. Mom was more serious, structured and organized.  Dad, with his sense of humor and unwavering kindness and spontaneity, made them a great pair.

Janet is survived by her three children, Richard (Anna) Hanson of Centralia, Jill Bennett of Centralia, Julie (Ron) Hagstrom of Covington. She has 12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren who fondly called her Nana.  Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; parents, Orville and Rosella Sackrider; and younger brother, Neil Sackrider.  Her beloved dog "Scooter” preceded her earlier this year and will lay to rest with her.

On March 3, 2023, at 4:20 a.m., our beloved Mom and Nana went to be with our Lord and Savior and join our Dad in heaven.  Her final moments were spent with her daughters Jill and Julie holding her hand! She was surrounded by family and love in her final days.

Her Graveside Service will be held at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501 on what was to be her 88th birthday, Monday, March 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
