Obituary of Lynn H. Tunick

Lynn H. “Chris” Tunick was born June 26, 1943, to Howard J. Tunick and Sally Alda Levy Tunick. She left us February 19, 2023, after a year-long challenge with cancer. She grew up in San Francisco, except for a few years in Chico, California, when her father owned an almond ranch. She began work as a dental assistant at age 15 to pay for her own dental work, eventually becoming the director of the dental assisting program at South Puget Sound Community College, and teaching expanded dental assisting duties at the University of Washington to other teachers from all over the country. Her students benefited from her humor, skill, and intellect.

Seeking more fulfillment, at age 40 she attended The Evergreen State College. After graduation in 1987, she worked as a drug and alcohol counselor at Recovery Northwest, South Sound Advocates and Providence Chemical Dependency Center until her retirement in 2008. Every client benefited from her compassion and insightful guidance, and all co-workers had their days brightened by her.

At retirement she wanted - and achieved - a contented, deep peace, enjoying her home, yard, dog, and friends.

A spiritual soul, a talented storyteller and writer, a gifted artist, and the quickest wit we will ever know, she will be dearly missed by her nieces, Leslie Tunick Robinson and Susan Tunick Tanis; her brother, Stewart Tunick; her chosen family: Sue Brown, Trish Williams, Dianna Evans and Katy Murray; her buddy, Aletia Alvarez; her “nephew,” Ryan Richards; and her many friends, neighbors and former co-workers.

A gathering to remember Chris will be held in the future. For details, contact Trish at Trishwilliams1952@comcast.net.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Retired Nuns at St. Placid Priory, 500 College St. NE, Lacey, WA 98516, or Olympia Union Gospel Mission, 413 Franklin St. NE, Olympia, WA 98501.
