Obituary of Charles Edward Skewis Jr.

Charles Edward Skewis Jr. passed away of natural causes at the age of 82 on November 25, 2022, in Centralia, Washington.  He was born February 17, 1940, to Charles and Leotice Skewis  in Tacoma, Washington. He grew up in Olympia, Washington, and lived his final 18 years in Tenino, Washington,

Charles graduated from Olympia High School with the Class of 1958, and married Sharon Rajchel in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on September 23, 1960.  He remarried on March 30, 1991, in Olympia to Devota C. Crank.

Professionally, Charles worked at Puget Power, Motor Boat Mart and Olympia Marina until he started his own business, Sound Marine Repair in 1975. When the business relocated, he started thinking about retirement and made it official in 2008, not by closing up shop but turning it over to his son, Larry.  He had, at one time, been a member of the South Sound Outboard Club, Capital Cruising Club, Olympia Yacht Club, Lazy Daisy’s Square Dance Club and Olympia Eagles #21.

Charles was a hardworking family man.  He was loyal, generous and loving, always ready to help anyone when needed.  His work ethic was, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing it right.” His interests included hydroplane racing, woodworking, boating, fishing, and antique/classic boats.

He is survived by his wife, Devota Skewis; son, Larry Skewis; daughters, Tami (Bob) Clark, Wendy (Joe) Bridges, and Leslie Brown; sister, Louann Davis; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Ben Skewis.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, February 19, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at the South Union Grange, 10030 Tilley Rd. SW, Olympia, WA 98512.
