Obituary of Janice Terry Cox

Janice Terry Cox passed away December 16, 2022, surrounded by family at home in Pe Ell, Washington, where she had resided for 53 years.  She suffered from malignant melanoma that was diagnosed in 2002. After nearly 18 years of remission, her cancer returned and she battled it again for over two years. Her spirit and positive outlook were to be admired.

Janice was born October 5, 1950, to Joseph Ranson Terry and Arlene (Marriott) Terry in Oakland, California, and was raised on a farm in Boistfort, Washington. She grew up a farm girl and learned to appreciate the outdoors and all the adventures it offered.

Janice graduated from Boistfort School in 1968, and married Daniel Clifford Cox on May 3, 1969, in Pe Ell, Washington, where they raised their family. Professionally, she was owner and head chef of Fox’s Den in Pe Ell for many years, a caterer, and homemaker.  She loved cooking, swimming, camping, riding 4-wheelers, spending time outdoors with her children and grandkids, and taking beach trips and casino trips. She was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints growing up, and still kept close friendships with many members through the years. She was also a member of the Pe Ell Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Cox of Pe Ell; sons, Troy Cox (Heather) of Chehalis, Terry Cox (Jessi) of Pe Ell, and Travis Cox (Sally) of Olympia; seven grandchildren, Carson, Cody, Wyatt, Abby, Kali, Garrett and Bailey; brother, Bruce Terry of Boistfort; sister, Cheryl (Fred) Everett of Chehalis; brother-in-law, Bobby Cox of Pe Ell; sister-in-law, Linda (Tom) Jurasin of Olympia; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Lynn Norris.

Janice had a fun, loving and outgoing spirit and was always ready for an adventure. She loved to play jokes and make up funny songs and stories for her family. She will be remembered for her famous maple bars and popcorn balls, her wonderful catering, and ability to make the most out of any situation.  She was loved and known as Grandma Janice to every kid who knew her.

“We are going to miss you Ms. America!”

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at Pe Ell VFW Hall.  Memorial donations may be made to the Pe Ell Ambulance Auxiliary, PO Box 308, Pe Ell, WA 98572.
