Obituary of Louise F. Adams

Louise F. Adams, beloved wife and mother of Olympia, Washington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022.  Born October 26, 1931, to Ralph and Sarah “Sally” (Hazlett) Fairchild in Medford, Oregon, she graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing, Spokane, Washington, in 1952 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Whitworth College, Spokane, Washington, in 1953.  Louise worked as a Registered Nurse until she married Roy J. Adams on May 4, 1957, in Spokane.  Together they raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Susan.  They moved from Spokane to Vancouver, Washington, in 1965, then to Edmonds, Washington, from 1966 to 1970, and finally to Olympia, where they resided for the last 52 years.

Louise was very involved in her children’s schools and activities, including Camp Fire and working as a school nurse.  She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.  She loved her home on Puget Sound and was fortunate to be able to enjoy the beautiful environment she fostered until her final days, which is how she wanted her life to end.

Louise’s love of the outdoors and gardening led her to join the Olympia Garden Club, where she had been a member since 1971.  She was also a member of the Washington Federation of Garden Clubs, Black Hills Designer’s group, the Olympia Opera Guild, and PEO.  She enjoyed volunteering as a Docent at the Washington State Executive Mansion.  Louise was very involved in the First United Methodist Church with the Health Ministry and Flower Committee.  In addition to gardening and volunteer work, Louise loved to travel, including trips to Africa and Antarctica.  She and Roy enjoyed collecting antiques, including old books, silver and art.  Louise was very energetic. She was a lifelong learner and was actively involved in the community.  She enjoyed friendships with people of all ages, which she appreciated for the rich discussions and new experiences that kept her life engaged and fulfilled.

Louise and Roy were fortunate to live next door to Susan and her family for 26 years. Grandma and Grandpa were always available to spend time with the grandchildren who were free to go between both homes.  It was a special environment that provided experiences and memories for a lifetime.  Elizabeth’s family was also in the immediate Puget Sound area so holidays and life events were regularly shared and experienced by all.

Louise is survived by her husband, Roy Adams; and her daughter, Susan (Adams) Meenk, and son-in-law, Robert Meenk; grandson, Colin Meenk; and granddaughters; Lauren Meenk, Sara Pernikoff and son-in-law, Edward Pernikoff.  Louise is preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Adams.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.  Details to be determined.  Memorial donations are suggested to Olympia Hutch Guild, PO Box 11069, Olympia, WA  98508.
