Obituary of Mary E. Sterling

Mary E. “Cookie” Sterling, 92, passed away of natural causes on October 24, 2022, in Olympia, Washington.  She was born on February 6, 1930, to George and Helen Koch in Bedford, Indiana.

She graduated 8^th grade in Bedford and worked for a paper products manufacturer from 1955 to 1985.  Before losing her eyesight, her favorite pastimes were to read and write poetry, having published several of her own writings.  She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Vernon L. Sterling Jr. of Olympia; daughter, Vickey L. McGlosson of Charlotte, North Carolina; four grandchildren, including Nina Sebastian and Jessica Chacon of Olympia; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.  All of her grandchildren lovingly called her Nanny.  She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Charles W. McDermed, and her great-grandmother, Donnie Walker.
