Nancy Davis

Obituary of Nancy Chapin Davis

Nancy Chapin Davis died on August 9, 2022, in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 95.  She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 9, 1927.  One of five children of Arthur and Catherine Chapin, she grew up in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts. After graduating from Oberlin College in 1948, she married Theodore Davis, who predeceased her. They lived in Denver, Colorado, where they raised three children.  She was a teacher in Littleton and Denver Public Schools. She was an active member of St. Philip and St. James Episcopal Church in Denver, where she established an after-school tutoring program for local schoolchildren. In 2020, she moved to Lacey, Washington, to be near her son, Jim, and his family.

Nancy is survived by her children, Cathy and son-in-law Larry Abbott of New York City; Jim and daughter-in-law Kim Davis of Lacey, and Barbara and son-in-law Randy Wehrman of San Diego, California; her brother, David Chapin of Wellesley, Massachusetts; as well as 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

An avid reader, music lover and traveler, she especially enjoyed connecting with people wherever she went.  In the words of one of her granddaughters, her capacity for love and genuine interest in her family’s lives was unmatched.

A memorial service will be held in Denver in April 2023.

Donations in her memory may be made to St. Philip and St. James Church, 2797 S. Lowell Blvd., Denver, CO 80236; the Denver Art Museum at https://www.denverartmuseum.org; or Habitat for Humanity at https://www.habitat.org.
