Obituary of Judith Carlson Kavanaugh Darling

In the 8th hour on the 8th day of the 8th month of the year 2022 (August 8, 2022), Judith Carlson Kavanaugh Darling passed into the infinite Light of cosmic consciousness, with her beloveds, husband Rob and son Evan, at her bedside. With a tear in her eye, she surrendered her body to fire and earth, her spirit carried on the breath of Grace, in Olympia, Washington, her home the past three years.  She was born July 18, 1956, in Madison, Wisconsin, to her parents Keith and Laura Carlson, whom she dearly loved.  Over the years, she also made homes in California and Oregon.

Judith was a massage therapist and caregiver, specializing in several modalities of subtle energy work and osteopathic principles founded in Ortho-Bionomy and Touch Trauma. Her initiation to this path began in 1990 after the birth of her oldest son, who experienced Traumatic Brain Injury as an infant. This was the catalyst that sent her into a new life exploration as she devoted herself to his care. Wisdom teachers from many traditions came to them over time, assisting in revealing her gift. The development of this innate calling created a life lived courageously and authentically.

She is a beautiful soul, filled with kindness, wise insight, and the desire to give and serve.  Her spirituality was lived in her daily life, and her brilliant intelligence, keen wit and playful humor touched everyone who came into contact with her. She loved all of nature, and deeply appreciated beauty expressed in everything she touched. The great outdoors called to her, and her pets, furred, feathered, cloved and hooved, found refuge in her care.

Answering to Judith, Judy or Jude, she valued honesty above all else and settled for nothing less. Being fierce of heart, she rose like a Viking Queen warrior, protecting those she loved. In high school, she channeled this strength through track and field, competing at the state level. And in her later, years Rob gifted her the means to fulfill the passion of her dreams to travel with friends to sacred sites in Scotland, England and France.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Darling; sons, Keith Michael Kavanaugh, Evan Kavanaugh, Liam Kavanaugh and Kodiak Darling; daughter, DaisyJane Darling; brothers, Eric Carlson, Dieter Kraus, David Fossum, Bob Saunders and Brian Wieker; and sisters, Lisa Carlson Kraus, Ellen Kwiatkowski, Kerry Saunders, Heather Wieker, Rene Fossum and Ann D. Burt.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in her gardens at 5250 Kinney Road SW, Olympia, WA 98512. If you would like to join the memorial via Zoom, please use the following:
