Obituary of Avanell Wheaton

Avanell “Sue” Wheaton, 89, died peacefully at home in Olympia, Wash., surrounded by her family on July 22, 2022. She was born on September 5, 1932, in Webster, South Dakota, and was a resident of Washington’s South Sound area for over 60 years. Sue loved gardening, baking, and spending time with her family. She was an active card player, especially cribbage. She played in and won several tournaments throughout the course of her life. She passed on her love of cards and cribbage to her children and grandchildren, who continue playing to this day.

Sue is survived by her sons, Michael Johnson (wife, Mary) of Pocatello, Idaho, and Kelly Johnson (husband, Bill) of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Kayt Nicometi of Kalkaska, Michigan, Jameson Johnson (wife, Vivian) of Pocatello, Crystal Pate (wife, Megan) of Olympia, and Lindsey Uy-Johnson of Alexandria, Virginia; and great-grandchildren, Mikaela, Anthony Jr., Henry, Thomas, and Eleanor. 

Sue was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and sweet friend to all who knew her. She will be missed by her family, friends and community. At her request, there will be no funeral service.
