Charles Nelson

Obituary of Charles G. Nelson

Charles G. “Chuck” Nelson passed away on May 29, 2022, in Olympia, Washington, in his home of 31 years. He was born August 23, 1951, to Charles and Mary Nelson in New Orleans, Louisiana. His high school years were spent in Abita Springs, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, he attended Louisiana State University and a year later joined the U.S. Air Force, where he met and married the love of his life, Tanya Romanoff, on December 1, 1973. For 26 years, Chuck honorably served as a Cryptologic Language Analyst in the U.S. Air Force. During those years, Chuck and Tanya lived in Germany, Ohio, and Oregon. Once retired from the Air Force, he and Tanya moved to Washington, where he worked as a pressman for The Olympian newspaper and Tacoma News Tribune.

Chuck was a quiet man with a wonderfully dry sense of humor. He enjoyed gardening and always had a project or two going on around his property. Chuck enjoyed traveling and could often be found with a camera in hand. More than anything else, he loved spending time with family, always making himself available for advice or a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife, Tanya; son, Chris, daughter-in-law Ashley; and brother, James. His parents and sister predeceased him.
