Obituary of Thomas Gerald Yett Sr.

Thomas Gerald Yett, Sr. passed away on April 22, 2022, in Yelm, Washington, after suffering a stroke.  He was born July 7, 1933, in Chowchilla, California, to Thomas W. and Lillian (Cox) Yett.  He graduated from Tehachapi High School.

Tom loved his children, Geraldine (Brent) Yett, Robert P. (Guiguite) Yett , Michael (Chris) Yett-Shotswell, Shelley (Eric) Schaer, Robert C. (Kelly) Yett, and Thomas Yett, Jr. (deceased); plus many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His siblings were sisters, Evelyn, Jan, Jeanne; and brothers, George, Johnny, and Lewis.  Former wife and good friend, Carol Yett (husband Duane), survive him.

Tom was the most loving, caring and kind dad, grandfather, brother, and friend to everyone.  He will be missed dearly.  He loved his children unconditionally and was so patient.  Tom supplied lots of opportunities by sending his children to camps, family vacations, and teaching them to appreciate the outdoors and the beauty of it.  Tom loved his five acres of rhododendrons and azaleas.  He spent many hours of his time in the yard each day.  He could name every one of his plants.  In his younger years, he was a fast runner, and could ride a bicycle backwards.  Amazing to watch.

Tom worked at Peterson’s Food Town (Olympia) for over 20 years and then 10 years at Stewart’s Meats, retiring in 1994.  Tom loved his profession as a meatcutter.  He took such pride in it and would go to work on his day off and make sure everything was stocked and looked good on the shelves.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
