Obituary of Marlene Marie Nottage

Marlene Marie Nottage, 81, went to her Lord on Saturday morning, January 22, 2022, at her home in Lacey, Washington, surrounded by family. She was born in Olympia on June 9, 1940, to parents, the late Joseph David Nottage and Ruth Sarah Nottage.

Marlene grew up in Lacey alongside her loving sisters, Marvel and Margaret, who preceded her in death. Marlene was the loving mother to Lynn McPherson, grandmother to Samantha McPherson and Kyle McPherson, and great-grandmother to Caden, Chloe, and Caleb Spaulding and Avery McPherson.

Marlene graduated from North Thurston High School in 1958. She worked for the State of Washington for 30 years and retired in 1990. To keep her busy in retirement, Marlene created many wonderful ceramic pieces in the business founded by her and her sister, Marvel. She also worked part-time doing product demos at Walmart in Lacey for many years during her retirement. She loved people and this was her way to stay connected to the community. Marlene also enjoyed knitting and making blankets, which along with her ceramics, were sold every year at holiday bazaars, including her main event at the Elma bazaar. In 2010, Marlene joined her best friend, Carolyn, on an Alaskan cruise to celebrate their 70th birthdays. The family will be forever thankful that she was able to take that trip.

Marlene’s philanthropic pursuits included many years as a member of Altrusa in Olympia, in fellowship with other women, raising money to make our local communities better through leadership, partnership, and service. She loved working the elephant ear booth at Lakefair for Altrusa until it started to take a toll on her physically.

A graveside service will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Tumwater, followed by a reception to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m. at Ricardo’s Kitchen + Bar, 676 Woodland Square Loop SE, Lacey, WA 98503. Memorial donations may be made to Altrusa International Foundation, Inc. Olympia or your favorite charity.
