Obituary of Bonnie Scheel

Bonnie Scheel, age 64 of Tenino, passed away in her home January 10, 2022.  She was born December 16, 1957, in New Orleans. She lived in many places but settled in her father’s hometown of Tenino in 1990. During her last days, she was surrounded by family and friends she loved. She had enormous strength and fought hard to stay in this world.

Bonnie loved festive family celebrations and could cook the best seafood gumbo. Happy times included walking on her family land with her sweet golden retriever, Kenzie.  She had great trips every year to the beach with friends, good food, and music. Her favorite spot was Maluaka Beach on Maui, where she loved diving for puka shells.

She identified with her New Orleans family roots and could acquire an accent if excited or partying with her New Orleans cousins, whom she loved.

Bonnie was charismatic but inspired calmness in others by her strong grounded presence. She was a lifetime learner and loved books.

Bonnie dabbled in several artistic areas, including painting, woodworking, photography, and building projects. She had degrees from TESC and WWSU. She retired from Washington State General Administration/Dept. of Enterprise Services. She enjoyed her work but left due to health issues related to cancer.

She is survived by her wife of 25 years, Denise Paulsen of Tenino; her sister, Kathy and her husband, Rob Newgard of Tenino; brother, Robert Scheel of Olympia; and a group of nieces, nephews, grand nephews and nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, David R. Scheel; and mother, Patricia Callahan Scheel.
