Obituary of Marylin (Fields) Callender

Marylin Callender, 90, a longtime resident of Olympia, Washington, passed away December 20, 2021, in the hospital after a short illness.  Marylin was born January 25, 1931, in Eagle Bend, Minnesota, and was the only child of Chester and Cecelia Fields. She graduated high school and college, eventually earning her Master’s degree in Education. Marylin was a much admired and loved school teacher for many years, teaching Fifth Grade at Lacey Elementary.

 

She married Mark L. Callender on October 25, 1952, and had three children, Robin, Scott and Renee. Mark and Marylin had many adventures together and traveled the world before and after retiring. One of her favorite achievements was teaching arts and crafts aboard cruise ships.  She also enjoyed bike riding well into her early 60s, and rode her bike across the USA.  Another one of Marylin’s loves was sewing, fabric and all things quilting. She created dozens of quilts and wall hangings over the years, and was a member of several quilting groups.

 

Marylin was a lifelong Christian, having been raised in the Lutheran church. She carried her faith quietly and genuinely her entire life. Marylin was a special woman, filled with spirit and love of life. She was genuinely loved by all who knew her.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mark Callender.  Marylin is survived by her three children, Robin, Scott and Renee; brother-in-law, Jay; sister-in-law, Judy; daughter-in-law, Caroline; son-in-law, Chris; and two grandsons, Aaron and Mark.

 

At her request, no service or memorial will be held.
