Obituary of Betty L. Young

Betty L. Young, age 90, passed away November 24, 2021, in Lacey, Washington, her home of 28 years.  She was born June 24, 1931, to William Preston and Mattie Louise Featherstone in Coffee County, Tennessee.  Over the years, Betty also lived in El Paso, Texas; Huntsville, Alabama; Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; San Diego, California; Panama City, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; and Washington, D.C.

She graduated from Bell Buckle High School in 1949, and attended business college in Nashville. She married John E. “Jack” Young in December 1959 in Juarez, Mexico.

Betty was spunky and lovingly known by family and friends as “Bad Ass Betty.”  She loved people, claiming she never met a stranger.  She had a great sense of humor, loved to make people laugh, and was a great story teller.  She also loved long, in-depth conversations, and kept up on all current events until the day she passed.  She was intellectual, insightful, generous, and supportive.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Honor Andrews of York, South Carolina, Lori Aune of Oceanside, California, and Julia Kitterman of Olympia, Washington; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Jack; her parents; brothers, Preston Featherstone Jr., Jack Featherstone, and Gene Featherstone; and sister, Marie Brasier.

Services will be scheduled for a later time.
