Obituary of Jean Borgman Baird

Jean M. Borgman Baird passed away of natural causes on November 13, 2021, at the age of 95. Jean was born on February 5, 1926, to Harry and Hilda Borgman in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jean was introduced to John Baird by her brother Harold in 1942, and later married John in December 1944. Their marriage produced four sons, Jack, Jerry, Jim and Jeff; and three grandchildren, Loren, Allison and Aaron.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband (2002), and son Jim (2004).

In the early years, Jean led the active life of a military spouse, involving many moves around the country as John received transfers and temporary overseas assignments. Packing the family possessions and children from assignment to assignment seemed like a never-ending chore. The family eventually settled in Tacoma in 1959.

Jean was a product of her times, the term “old school” could apply. She was caring, comforting, generally good natured, and willing to lend a hand. Jean also could be stubborn. Somewhat frugal in her day-to-day purchases, Jean was generous in donating time and money to causes she deemed worthwhile.

Until her health began to deteriorate, Jean was an active member in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She volunteered for various church duties and participated in the annual rummage sale and shoe drive. Her faith was a constant in her life. Before passing, she received the Sacrament of Anointing. True to her faith to the end.

A life well lived.

Jean’s final instructions requested that there be no memorial service or donations.
