James Snodgrass Jr.

Obituary of James Snodgrass Jr.

James Snodgrass Jr. passed away October 19, 2021, in Olympia, Washington.  He died of multiple myeloma due to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. Jim was born January 15, 1948, to James and Georgina “Pearl” (McClements) Snodgrass in Glasgow, Scotland. He was raised in Roselle, New Jersey; raised his family in Slaughterville, Oklahoma; and retired to Olympia, where he resided for six years.

Jim graduated from Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, and attended Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1967 to December 1970, during the Vietnam War.  He married Nancy Mueller on July 28, 1979, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Professionally, Jim worked for the United States Postal Service (1985-2012).  He was a member of VFW, South Canadian River Riding Club, and American Postal Workers Union Local #37, where he served as president.

Jim had strong political opinions and loved to discuss them.  He loved to help people and had a big, soft heart.  He was hilarious, friendly, and extremely stubborn.  He loved horseback riding, especially dressage.  Jim was an avid fisherman, loved Dobermans, music, and playing the guitar.  He enjoyed singing, writing poetry and music, and having a wee cup of tea.  He could never pass up a good deal, and loved his family above all else.

Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy Mueller Snodgrass of Olympia; son, James Snodgrass (spouse, Emily) of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter, Jessica Thrift (spouse, Krista Thrift) of Olympia; grandchildren, Levi, Otto and Memphis; brothers, Charles Snodgrass of Brick, New Jersey, Derek Snodgrass (spouse, Jutta) of Savannah, Georgia, and Bruce Snodgrass of DeLand, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Donald Snodgrass and Linda Snodgrass.
