Obituary of Nathan A. Gypin Sr.

Nathan A. Gypin Sr. of Thurston County, Washington, journeyed from his earthly home to his eternal home on October 6, 2021. Nathan was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Jesse M. and Clara Gypin in December 1938, and moved as a young boy with his family to Colorado, where his father was stationed with the U.S. Army. He met and married his wife, Teresa, in Colorado 40 years ago, and they later moved to Washington, where they made a life for over 32 years.

Nathan was an U.S. Army veteran, serving with the Army Security Agency. Following his Army service, he worked some years in a variety of occupations, and later received vocational training in major appliance repair, subsequently starting his own appliance repair and sales business in both Colorado and Washington. He greatly enjoyed the challenges of his chosen career, and especially the people he met and was able to help, often sacrificially, with their appliance needs.

Fly fishing was the recreational joy of his life. He could often be found on a river pulling trout or salmon, even when no one else was getting a bite. But he freely taught others his fishing “secrets” or techniques so they, too, could enjoy his favorite hobby.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Gypin; sons, Travis Gypin and Nathan Gypin Jr. (Merry); and daughters, Carrie Tubbs (Jack) and Lorrie Gypin. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Nathan M, Gypin, Sabrina Gypin, Caity Houghton, and Hannah Mitchell. He is predeceased by his brother, Jesse M. Gypin Jr.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, WA 98042.
