Obituary of William Bolz

A longtime resident of Sterling, Alaska, William “Bill” Bolz passed away on August 25, 2021, at the age of 87 in Olympia, Washington.  He was born in Gurley, Nebraska, on September 10, 1933, to Henry Adolph Bolz and Johanna Jurgen Dykman Bolz.

Once Bill finished his schooling, he took a profession in the oil field industry.  This industry took him to many states, where he finally settled in Alaska, working for Gearhart Wireline Services and retiring from Halliburton. He met Phyllis White in 1974, and they married and made their home together in Sterling in 1979.

Bill was a people-person who loved all outdoor activities and could fix almost anything. He was outgoing and never knew a stranger. A family member recently said, “I never had a grandpa. When I imagined the perfect version of one, it was Bill - smart, strong, kind, fun, and funny. He (immediately) made me feel like part of the family, and like I had a grandpa. I am so grateful for that.” Anyone who knew Bill felt these same sentiments.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bonita Hazlett; and his eight siblings. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis; his children, Jerry White, Karen Litcher, Cyndi Bolz, Debbie White, William Bolz; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
