Marion Lynn

Obituary of Marion Catherine Lynn

Marion Catherine Lynn, 81, passed away July 8, 2021, at her home in Olympia, Washington, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marion was born on March 11, 1940, in Tuxedo, New York.  The daughter of Louis and Mary Aiello, Marion grew up in Palm Beach, Florida, and attended Palm Beach High School.  In 1957, she married the love of her life, Gordon Douglas Lynn, and together raised four daughters.  In 1975, the family pulled up stakes and moved to the opposite corner of the country, ultimately settling in the Olympia area.

Always the devoted mother and homemaker, “Joppy,” as her grandkids called her, opened her home to families in need of childcare, and for more than a decade blessed many young parents and children as they matured in life.  Marion also held several positions in retail over the years, but especially enjoyed her work as a floral designer.

Marion loved working in her home with some DIY project always in the works.  She nurtured the flora and fauna in her yard with the same love and care she showered on her family.  Each spring, the momma raccoons, bunnies, and squirrels would bring their babies to be fed at the back door, and a new generation of critters would take up residence in the lush yard.

Marion was a member of Gateway Christian Center in Lacey, Washington, and the desire to bless others and share Christ was the driving force in her life.  Next to her love for the Lord, her family’s welfare was always the most important thing in Marion’s life.  She committed her entire being to care for her husband and children, especially her daughter with special needs.  Marion was a force for compassion and a bedrock of motherly love.  She met her illness with the same steadfast faith as she lived her life, “Thy will be done.”  She will be dearly missed.

Marion is survived by her husband, Doug; and her children, Maria Lynn of Olympia, Julie Lynn of Olympia, Laura Logan and husband Michael of Tumwater, and Shauna Mercer and husband Daniel of Olympia; five grandchildren, Rachel, Jessica, Lyndsey, Adrienne, and Matthew; and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Gateway Christian Center, 3300 Marvin Rd. NE, Lacey, WA  98516.
