Obituary of Butch Steffler

Orval “Butch” Steffler passed away April 30, 2021, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. Butch lived at Black Lake, the family home for the past 29 years.  He was born April 6, 1938, to Glen and Thelma (Schrader) Steffler in Charles City Iowa.

 

Butch attended Olympia High School.  He married Lynn Carpenter on July 3, 1967, in Spanaway, Washington.

 

Professionally, Butch worked at St. Regis plywood plant; then was a window cleaner for Don’s Window Service; a bus driver for Intercity Transit; a truck driver for Dairy Fresh, Greystone Cement, Quigg Construction, as well as for various contract mail carriers.

 

Over the years, Butch loved to dance, ride motorcycles, and race jalopies and modified cars on local race tracks.  He also enjoyed camping with his family; gardening; and raising dogs, cows, pigs, chickens, and miniature horses.

 

He is survived by his wife, Lynn (Carpenter) Steffler; daughters, Sara (Steffler) Smith, and two daughters from a previous marriage; grandchildren, Deidre Smith and Heather Evans; sister, Romae Foster; nieces, Radean (Nolan) Brown, Linda (Pete) Arsenault, Kim Gubbe, Dianna (Henry) Morales, and Michelle (Bob) Hall; nephews, Terry (Diane) Foster and Kelly (Cynthia) Foster; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and other “family,” Grant and Jasmine Seaman, Barbara Norton, and Sandra Weakland and her family.

 

He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey; sister, Belva Henrickson; and parents, Glen and Thelma Steffler.
