Larry McKissick

Obituary of Larry Lee McKissick

Larry Lee McKissick, 77, passed away January 26, 2021, surrounded by family at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born May 5, 1943, to Ruth and Pershing “Percy” McKissick, in Olympia, Washington.

Larry graduated from North Thurston High School in 1961, and married Sharon Swanson on June 10, 1962, in Chehalis, Washington.  He completed an auto mechanic apprenticeship in 1967, and earned an Associate of Technical Arts degree from Olympia Technical Community College in 1980.

Larry was always friendly and had a big smile for everyone.  He was hired as an auto mechanic with the Washington State Patrol in 1967, and retired as WSP’s Fleet Administrator in August 1997.  After retirement from WSP, he worked 12 years in security for the Washington State Senate during legislative sessions.  He also enjoyed doing construction loan inspections for Timberland Savings Bank.

A lifetime resident of Thurston County, he loved camping, boating, tinkering with John Deere tractors, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.  He was a Grange member for over 60 years.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Charles (Fernanda) of Albany, Oregon, and Craig (Sally) of Olympia; daughter, Carla (Pat) McAferty of Littlerock, Washington; grandchildren, Meagan, Lauryn, Madeline, Lorenzo, Kellen, and Alana; and brother-in-law, Gary Bigler.  He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Percy; and sister, Shirley Bigler.

A celebration of life will be announced later.  Memorial donations may be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Washington State Patrol Memorial Foundation.
